Standing Wave Music - Fees

Hourly Rate - $60/hour

As in most things, you get what you pay for in recording your project. Many studios will offer a low hourly rate, or packaged rate, for recording. A low hourly rate is attractive at first, because it implies the project will cost less. In reality, however, recording and producing music always take longer than expected. The hours add up and you may find yourself over budget only halfway to the finish line. At that point it is hard to stop, and you end up spending much more than ever anticipated.

On the other hand, a high hourly rate is sure to cost you more and doesn't necessarily guarantee a quality outcome either. The skills, knowledge and ears of your recording engineer are what determine the quality of your final product. Standing Wave Music provides high quality recording and engineering at a reasonable fee. Ultimately, what you want is a recording to be proud of years from now. You get that at Standing Wave.

Project Fee

As an alternative to an hourly rate, Standing Wave can also scope out what your project will take and propose a flat fee for the entire undertaking. That's good, because we can all focus on the music rather than worrying about the clock. If the computer freezes up, you don't have to wonder who's paying for the extra time. If a session takes longer than expected, no big deal, we just do it. On the other hand, seeing the full cost up front can cause sticker shock. It is important to value your art and recognize that important work requires equivalent investment. Bite the bullet and sing.

Things that Influence Your Cost

Here are typical factors that influence how much time the recording might take and what your investment might be:
